Announcement #34 of 2024

27 August 2024

Dear CDWS members,
Witnessing dolphins in the sea is always a joyful experience. However, it has been observed lately that some service providers and practitioners are behaving recklessly when encountering dolphins, potentially endangering both the dolphins and themselves.

This chaos and irresponsible behavior could lead to a disaster and reflect badly on the reputation of the tourism industry.

We emphasize on the importance of treating dolphins with respect and caution and to follow the following codes of conduct by the Dolphin Watch Alliance and HEPCA.
The codes of conduct contain valuable information about how boats and practitioners can interact with dolphins in a sustainable and safe way.
Care For Dolphins and Code of Conduct (Dolphin Watch Alliance):
Dolphin Code of Conduct (HEPCA):

We urge all professionals in the sector to follow those guidelines. This includes educating staff and raising awareness among the practitioners on how to avoid disturbing or harming dolphins to ensure that both have a pleasant encounter.

Additionally, we remind you that it’s strictly prohibited to carry out a water sports activity while the boat is in motion according to the Manual and Protocol for Audits for Water Sports Centers (Snorkeling Service Providers). Failure to comply with these regulations may result in penalties and legal action.

Stay Safe,
Regards,
The Chamber of Diving and Water Sports
