Dear CDWS members,
Earlier today a tiger shark was spotted unusually close to the shores of Marsa Alam, in Om El Gorayfat Bay in front of Utopia and Coraya hotels.
Please review the attached letter from Wadi El Gemal’s national park office to follow the needed instructions and report immediately at 01003334580 in case of seeing the shark close to the hotel area in Marsa Alam.
We remind our members to ensure the following precautions are applied:
• All guides and technical managers should review the shark awareness course guidelines: https://cdws.travel/info/1training/shark-awareness
• Please refrain from snorkeling or doing water sports activities in the area as it is strictly forbidden.
• All guides should conduct a proper safety briefing prior to entering the water.
• Ensure that there is sufficient first aid material on board, a full oxygen tank with its correct appendage, and a tourniquet.
• Divers should be briefed on how to correctly behave, position themselves and stay calm during a shark encounter.
• Do not feed fish while conducting any marine activity.
• Do not fish while on a boat as this can attract sharks to hang around the boat.
• Do not allow the boat crew to throw food from the boat as this attracts sharks towards the boats for feeding.
• Ensure lights on the hotel's jetties are closed at nighttime.
For any unusual shark, behavior noticed at the surface or nearby the coastline please report directly to
