Announcement 11 of 2023

07 February 2023

Dear CDWS members,
As per the attached letter received from the National Park authority of South Sinai, an open-water marine species was spotted near the Napoleon Reef area in the city of Dahab, and as per the observation, the fish appeared to approach the surface in an unusual behavior. Accordingly, for the safety of the tourists and the diving and water sports practitioners, it has been decided to close the area (starting from the Islands dive site, north till the end of the Lagoon South) till further notice.

We remind our members to ensure the following precautions are applied:
All guides and technical managers should review the shark awareness course guidelines: https://cdws.travel/info/1training/shark-awareness
Please refrain from snorkeling or doing water sports activities in the area as it is strictly forbidden.
All guides should conduct a proper safety briefing prior to entering the water.
Ensure that there is sufficient first aid material on board, a full oxygen tank with its correct appendage, and a tourniquet.
Divers should be briefed on how to correctly behave, position themselves and stay calm during a shark encounter.
Do not feed fish while conducting any marine activity.
Do not fish while on a boat as this can attract sharks to hang around the boat.
Do not allow the boat crew to throw food from the boat as this attracts sharks towards the boats for feeding.
Ensure lights on the hotel's jetties are closed at nighttime.
For any unusual shark, behavior noticed at the surface or nearby the coastline please report directly to the CDWS on WhatsApp 01279667725 or e-mail [email protected]
Regards,
The Chamber of Diving and Water Sports
