Planning for Growth Egypt's Tourism 2016 Conference

02 March 2016

Dear colleagues,

On Tuesday 23 February, 2016, two members of CDWS board attended the aforementioned conference in Cairo.

Among the attendees were the minister of tourism, the British and Russian ambassadors, the GM of Control Risk (the company currently auditing Sharm - Marsa Alam & Cairo airports), the secretary general of UNWTO, the chairman of WTTC, and a remarkable group of business people and international travel associations and groups.

Obviously the audit and the return of normal tourism were the major issues that were discussed. Control risks manager advised us that his group has been at Sharm airport for 1.5 weeks (began 15 Feb, Marsa Alam began 23rd Feb) and still have the same period to finish their work. Upon concluding their report they will present it to the concerned parties (MOT, Egyptian civil aviation, ministry of interior, airport holding company, international governments' delegations, FCO & Russian government).
The feedback from the British delegates has been encouraging so far.

The British & Russian ambassadors assured the attendees of their continuous efforts to resume the flights and lift the bans; they are working closely with the Egyptian government.

Several panels for discussions were held, many issues were discussed (the foreign currency transfer abroad for example).

Easyjet regional director announced commencement of flights by 29 may 2016.

Kind regards,
Board of Director
