Announcement no. 38 of 2022

11 May 2022

Dear members,
This newsletter concerns all safari boats operating in the Red Sea governorate.
The seismic surveying in the Southern Red Sea will be ongoing till June 2022. The seismic surveying vessel M/V PXGEO2 is towing 12 underwater cables 12 Km long, with a tow of 1 Nautical Mile wide.
To ensure the safari vessels' safety and avoid any collision with the underwater cables, if you encounter M/V PXGEO2 at sea, the safari vessel must maintain a minimum distance of 3 nautical miles ahead and on each side (starboard / Port side). If the safari vessel is positioned behind M/V PXGEO2, it must keep a minimum distance of 10 nautical miles to remain within a safe distance. If the safari vessel comes too close to the seismic surveying equipment, you will be contacted via VHF radio on channel 16 and instructed to deviate your route. If the safari boat fails to respond to the radio call, they will be escorted by guard vessels to a safe distance.
We advise that the following information is communicated to the safari captain & crew. We insist the safari boats use the VHF radio on channels 16 & 69 when in the vicinity of M/V PXGEO2 call sign C6EY9 to communicate with the vessel to ensure safety.
See the attachment for more information in Arabic and English.
