Announcement #33 of 2022

01 May 2022

Dear CDWS members,
We are notifying our Sharm El Sheikh members to remain on high alert of the possible risk of a shark attack during the Eid holiday. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities have notified the CDWS that Ras Mohammed National Park will be closed starting Sunday 1st of May to all marine activities until further notice.

We remind our members to ensure the following precautions are applied:
All guides and technical managers should review the shark awareness course guidelines: https://cdws.travel/rules/Shark%20Awareness%20Course
Please refrain from snorkeling in areas where snorkeling is strictly forbidden. Those areas are not safe for snorkeling or even beginner divers.
All guides should conduct a proper safety briefing prior to entering the water.
Ensure that there is sufficient first aid material on board, a full oxygen tank with its correct appendage and a tourniquet.
Divers should be briefed on how to correctly behave, position themselves and stay calm during a shark encounter.
Do not feed fish while conducting any marine activity.
Do not fish while on a boat as this can attract sharks to hang around the boat.
Do not allow the boat crew to throw food from the boat as this attracts sharks towards the boats for feeding.
Ensure lights on the hotel's jetties are closed at nighttime.
For any unusual shark behavior noticed at the surface or nearby the coastline please report directly to the CDWS on WhatsApp 01279667725 or e-mail [email protected]
Regards,
The Chamber of Diving and Water Sports
