Announcement #38 of 2021

07 July 2021

Dear CDWS members,
It is expected in this season an increase in the shark's population and sightings compared to the rest of the year, accordingly and in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and the National Park office several studies and follow-ups are performed to monitor the shark's behavior in the Red Sea.
We would like to request your kind support to report immediately any shark sightings in Sharm El-Sheikh or Ras Mohamed National Park, to supply the monitoring programs with the required information of the sightings with videos and pictures -if possible-.
Please contact us on [email protected] or send the shark sightings by filling out the following form https://www.cdws.travel/complaints
You can also contact the complaints and violations numbers listed in the attached file by phone or via WhatsApp.
We would like to remind you of the following instructions shared by the Ministry of Environment:
Ensure that you comply with the technical and safety instructions announced by the CDWS on shark awareness and safety guidelines.
Please adhere to the known procedures and measures issued by relevant entities regarding performing the diving and water sports activities safely, by avoiding any behavior or practice that would attract the sharks or any other marine species that could put people's lives in danger, like; swimming on the surface or drifting to areas in the water that are out of track. Diving and snorkeling instructors and guides should advise and educate the practitioners to ensure their environmental awareness of the nature of the region.
It is forbidden to carry out any drift snorkeling activity or to perform snorkeling in a drift diving site as it should be only performed while the boat is mooring and to take into consideration the weather and the sea current conditions.
It is prohibited to dispose of any food liquid or solid waste -or any other kind of waste- in the water from the boat during the trip, as the waste should be collected and disposed of at the jetties after completing the trip.
It is prohibited to carry any fishing equipment or ay fishing tools of any kind on board all boats in those areas.
Please take into consideration the immediate and direct report of any environmental violation, whether it is done on board a boat or by individuals by filling the following form https://www.cdws.travel/complaints
Regards,
The Chamber of Diving and Water Sports
