This beautiful and secluded bay is considered one of the best spots for kitesurfing throughout the whole of the Red Sea. Soma Bay has some small, offshore islands that protect the bay from big waves. Indeed, fantastic flat water, small to medium sized waves and shallow areas with sandy beaches and bottom offer something for every level of ability.
There is wind throughout the year, with some of the best in the summer, usually sideshore to side-offshore. However, as Soma Bay also enjoys at least 1 Bft more than Hurghada further up the coast, it is a popular spot all year round.
In the summer months, from May to October, the average wind is around 22 knots or 6 Bft with the afternoons sometimes getting even stronger winds, especially in September.
A recently inaugurated kitesurf centre named ‘7BFT’ is set beautifully on the beach with perfect kitesurfing conditions. It has set the ambitious target to turn Soma Bay into one of the most popular spots among kiters and caters for beginners and professionals with state of the art equipment for teaching and equipment rental.
